FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

It’s natural to have lots of questions when you’re considering signing your child up for online programming. To help make the process as easy as possible, we’ve provided a list of some of the most common questions we receive below. HOW DOES CAMP WEBBY WORK?

Camp Webby runs on Zoom, which is a super simple and easy application to run. Download the Zoom application on the device your child will be using. Click here to download Zoom on your device. 

You will be emailed your schedule and password encrypted Zoom link well before the first day of camp that directly accesses our video conference. Simply click the link five minutes prior to your daily program start time. After clicking the link a tab will pop up that reads “Do you want to allow this page to open “zoom.us”?” Click allow. After you will be given the option to join with or without video. Click join with video. You will follow the same process for each day of Camp Webby programming. 

CAN I SIGN UP FOR MULTIPLE CAMP WEBBY CLASSES?

Yes! You can sign up for up to eight classes throughout the week (Fitness, Theatre, Art Club, Magic Workshop, Math Enrichment, English Enrichment, French Enrichment, Computers/Coding Enrichment) and our Webby Weekend Saturday Camp!

HOW DOES WEBBY ACADEMY WORK

The Webby Academy Program includes both private one-on-one tutoring and group enrichment options. We work directly with OCT certified teachers and industry leaders to curate the most effective pedagogical model for online delivery. Our class instructors include a mix of university students and OCT certified teachers.


Our core enrichment strategy is to help students master their coursework while building their self-efficacy and academic confidence. Our curricula mirror the core elementary concepts in each of the subject areas offered. Our lessons primarily take the form of targeted problem sets to help our students further their understanding of the material and hone their problem solving skills!

WHAT IS THE CODING/COMPUTERS ENRICHMENT COURSE?

Schools boards across the world have begun integrating computers and coding education into their core curricula. Most recently, the Ontario government announced a new curriculum that will have students from grades 1-8 learning concepts related to coding.


Webby Academy has consulted with Industry leaders to build out a comprehensive computers and coding program to help your children stay ahead of the curve. The program will teach students measurements of data storage, such as a byte, kilobyte, megabyte and gigabyte, alongside the other units of measurement they learned previously and will include hands-on activities designed to help students engage with the material. Our classes will be taught by University students majoring in Computer Science and Engineering that have at least two years of tutoring experience.

HOW IS THE WEBBY WEEKDAY PROGRAM DIFFERENT THAN THE WEBBY WEEKEND PROGRAM?

Webby After-School is our weekly evening program for extracurricular activities in the Fall-Winter. Our classes run for ten weeks at a time and place more of an emphasis on skill-building and collaboration! Our students will work towards a common goal and/or project that they will showcase at the end of the term. 


Webby Weekend is a continuation of our summer camp program which we'll be offering over 10 Saturdays this Fall-Winter! Our robust camp model ran for a very successful 8 weeks this past summer and offers a variety of physical, social and creative activities. 

DO I USE THE SAME ZOOM LINK FOR DIFFERENT WEEKDAY AND/OR WEEKEND PROGRAMS?

No. Each Camp Webby class will have its own Zoom link you will have access to. This Zoom link will be used for the duration of the session unless otherwise notified.

WHEN DO I NEED TO ENROLL BY?

Registration will operate on a first come first serve basis. Having already received a lot of interest, we recommend signing up as soon as possible, especially given the limited number of spots avaiable.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT LEVELS FOR WEBBY ACADEMY?

We will be offering enrichment in three separate levels. Level 1 includes students who are performing at a grade 1-2 level. Level 2 will cover topics for students performing at a grade 3-4 level. Finally, Level 3 will include instruction for performance at a grade 5+ level! Each student will complete a diagnostic test before beginning our enrichment programs to determine their appropriate level of instruction. Students who show steady improvements will be given the opportunity to move up to a higher level!

HOW MANY CAMPERS WILL EACH SESSION HAVE?

Given the nature of our program, we have decided to allow a maximum of fifteen campers per session of Webby After-School and Webby Academy and a maxiumum of ten students for Webby Academy enrichment classes. For this reason we recommend enrolling as soon as possible.

ARE THERE ANY MATERIALS I AM REQUIRED TO PURCHASE BEFORE CAMP?

Only the After-School Art Club and Webby Weekend programs require materials to be purchased before the start of the session. Camp Webby will not be providing the materials but we will be providing a comprehenisve list for the session with links to local suppliers. We are also working with suppliers to have our Art Club (Webby After-School) and Arts and Crafts (Webby Weekend) materials listed on their websites.

HOW DO I REGISTER FOR PRIVATE TUTORING AT WEBBY ACADEMY?

DO I HAVE TO BE IN THE ROOM DURING CAMP WEBBY?

No! The whole point of Camp Webby is to make your life easier and give you a break from having to be a full-time caregiver. However, if you choose to be in the room during programming you are more than welcome to. We simply ask that you be sensitive to the fact that an activity is in place and all sights and sounds coming from your screen will be distracting to the other campers. In the event that you have to speak to your child while camp is in session, we ask that you turn your microphone and video off.

IN WHAT CAPACITY DO I HAVE TO BE INVOLVED IN CAMP WEBBY?

Camp Webby is an immersive and interactive virtual experience. For this reason we expect minimal supervisory involvement in daily programming.

For Webby Jr., we expect that someone will have to get campers set up before daily programming, have necessary materials accessible for daily use, and provide a snack during our scheduled snack time (for Webby Weekend). For Webby Sr., we expect that with a bit of help campers will be able to get the hang of joining the daily Zoom link. This means they can log into camp themselves. We recommend copy and pasting the Zoom link onto a separate document that campers simply have to click to join before their daily programming starts.    

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY ZOOM DISCONNECTS?

In the event that your child disconnects from the program we will call the contact number you provide (we recommend providing your cellphone for this reason) to help reconnect him or her to the video call. This may simply mean having your Webby Sr. camper reconnect to the call on his or her own or you doing it for them. Disconnection should not be cause for concern as it is very easy to rejoin the link.

HOW DOES SNACK/LUNCH TIME WORK FOR WEBBY WEEKEND?

Snack/Lunch time is a break in programming for campers to eat and refuel. It is also the time campers should use the bathroom. We will not be providing a daily snack for campers, so feel free to either bring your child a snack into the room, have them prepared with a snack ready at the beginning of that day’s programming, or campers are welcome to leave the room for snack time and return at the start of the next program.

WHAT IF I WANT BOTH MY CHILDREN ON THE SAME SCREEN?

If you are enrolling more than one child in the same age bracket they are welcome to share a screen. However, if your children are not in the same age bracket we advise you to put each child in the program that coincides with his or her age. Sharing a screen does not change the price of enrolment. Camp Webby already offers a discounted rate for households with multiple enrolments.

DO I RECEIVE A DISCOUNT FOR MULTIPLE ENROLMENTS?

Yes! Every additional child enrolled in Camp Webby will lower your total cost of enrolment by 10%. This means that your total cost at checkout will be reduced by 10% for your second child and 20% for your third. Discounted rates only apply to siblings living in the same household.

DO I RECEIVE A DISCOUNT FOR REFERRALS?

Yes! You will receive an enrolment discount of 10% per household that signs up for Camp Webby based on your referral. This means that if five households enroll with you as their referral source your enrolment cost will be reduced by 50%!

HOW DO I RECEIVE MY REFERRAL DISCOUNT IF I'VE ALREADY PAID?

If you have already paid just email campwebby@gmail.com and let us know the last name of the family you referred. After we have verified your referral with the family we update our referral database. At the end of the summer you will be reimbursed the percentage of your enrolment cost that coincides with your number of confirmed referrals. 

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE DEVICE I AM USING STOPS WORKING?

In the event that your device or internet connection stops working and your child misses more than half of a program (more than 30 minutes of a Weekday class and more than 90 minutes of Webby Weekend programming, not including snack/lunch) you are entitled to a full refund for that day.
